Hi, this is CoinFirstStep. This India crypto tax calculator works out the tax on your crypto sales the way India's rules do: 30% on each gain, 4% cess on the tax, no set-off for losses, and a credit for any 1% TDS already taken. Enter each sale below. Nothing you type leaves your browser.
It's a quick estimate for residents of India, not tax advice. For your return, check your numbers with a chartered accountant.
Surcharge isn't included. It's added if your total income is above ₹50 lakh.
How this India crypto tax calculator works
Each row is one sale or swap of crypto. The calculator applies the same rules as our guide to Binance crypto tax in India:
| Gain on each sale | Sold for minus bought for, taxed at 30% |
|---|---|
| Losses | Shown, but not subtracted from any gain |
| Cess | 4% of the tax |
| TDS credit | 1% of the sale amount, only where TDS was taken |
| Fees | Not deductible, so there's no box for them |
The example already filled in is the one from our tax guide: Bitcoin bought for ₹1,00,000 and sold for ₹1,50,000, and Ether bought for ₹60,000 and sold for ₹40,000, with TDS taken on both. The Ether loss doesn't reduce the Bitcoin gain, so ₹13,700 is left to pay. Untick the TDS boxes and it becomes ₹15,600.
What the calculator leaves out
| Surcharge | Added on top if your total income is above ₹50 lakh |
|---|---|
| Gifts of crypto | Taxed at your normal slab rates, not 30%, once gifts from non-relatives pass ₹50,000 in a year |
| Non-residents | Different TDS rules apply |
| Other income | Your salary and other income are taxed separately |
The most common mistake I see is people netting a loss on one coin against a gain on another before working out the tax. India's rules don't allow that, which is why this calculator keeps losses on a separate line.
▣ Check your AIS before you file
Only TDS that shows in your Annual Information Statement (AIS) or Form 26AS can be credited. If you're not sure TDS was taken on a sale, leave its box unticked.
India crypto tax calculator FAQ
Does this calculator work for Binance trades?
Yes. The rules apply to you, not the exchange, so enter your Binance sales the same way. If you don't have an account yet, the step-by-step sign-up guide covers KYC with your PAN.
Why doesn't my loss reduce my tax?
India doesn't allow crypto losses to be set off against any income, including gains on other coins, and they can't be carried forward.
Is a swap like BTC to USDT a sale?
Yes. Enter it as a row: what you paid for the BTC, and the value of the USDT you got.
Is my data saved or sent anywhere?
No. The calculator runs in your browser and doesn't save or send what you type.
Crypto prices are volatile, and you can lose money. This is an estimate, not tax or investment advice. Tax rules can change, so confirm the current rules before you file.
